Our new feature, IDrive Rewind, is geared toward users who want to protect their data from possible future Crypto Virus attacks as well as those who have previously been affected by ransomware. Ransomware is an attack where data is encrypted by a third party and held for ransom, forcing users to pay to get their data unlocked. Rewind allows users to restore previous, unaffected files to their computers so as to avoid paying the ransom that many virus creators demand in exchange for the key that they claim will unlock the encrypted data.
In the past year, a rise in Crypto Viruses have affected hundreds of thousands of users. The biggest one being CryptoLocker, but many other ransomware trojans and malware exist as well.
We developed IDrive Rewind to aid our users in retrieving their data at no cost, in the event they are hit by a Crypto Virus.
Rewind benefits:
- Users can go into their backup history and restore earlier versions of files or folders to a point before files were infected.
- Previous, unharmed versions can be restored to an uninfected PC or Mac, and, avoiding dealing with the virus directly.
- IDrive has always offered users the option to restore up to 30 previous file versions without these versions taking up quota space, but Rewind offers a better way to access data, as it provides folder versioning for up to three previous folder versions for no extra cost.
With Rewind, even if your latest backed up file version is corrupt or infected, you can still restore earlier file versions. And, in the event a large number of corrupt files are backed up, you can avoid the time consuming process of restoring the clean versions one by one with Rewind’s ability to restore multiple files at once.
It’s clear ransomware as an attack isn’t going anywhere, but now you can protect yourself from potential threats. Protect your computer in advance by making sure you have backups, so if you find yourself in a Crypto Virus bind, you’ll be covered with IDrive Rewind.
