IDrive® e2 Announces AWS Security Token Service (STS) Support, Enhancing Secure Object Storage Access

IDrive® e2, a leading provider of S3-compatible cloud object storage, is excited to announce the integration of AWS Security Token Service (STS) support, offering customers enhanced security and flexibility for managing access to their cloud storage. This new feature provides temporary, limited-privilege credentials for secure, time-bound operations, reinforcing IDrive® e2’s commitment to delivering robust, scalable, and cost-effective storage solutions.

Key Benefits of AWS STS Support in IDrive® e2

  • Enhanced Security: Temporary session credentials inherit permissions from existing IDrive® e2 access keys, enabling secure, restricted access for CLI, SDKs, or third-party tools without exposing long-term credentials.
  • Time-Limited Access: Users can generate session tokens with customizable durations (e.g., 3,600 seconds), ensuring access is revoked automatically after the specified period, reducing the risk of unauthorized use.
  • Seamless Integration: Fully compatible with AWS CLI, S3 Browser, and environment variables, STS support allows users to leverage existing S3-compatible tools and workflows with minimal configuration.
  • Cost-Effective Scalability: Combined with IDrive® e2’s pricing at$2.06/TB/month first year with reserved capacity—up to 90% less than AWS S3—and no egress fees, STS support delivers secure access without compromising affordability.

Why This Matters

The addition of AWS STS support strengthens IDrive® e2’s position as a secure, S3-compatible alternative to traditional cloud storage providers. By enabling temporary credentials, IDrive® e2 empowers developers and businesses to implement fine-grained access controls, ideal for use cases like automated backups, data migrations, and application integrations. With 13 global edge locations and eleven 9s of data durability, IDrive® e2 ensures high availability and performance for petabyte-scale data storage.

“We’re thrilled to introduce AWS STS support to IDrive® e2, giving our users greater control over secure access to their cloud storage,” said Raghu Kulkarni, CEO of IDrive, Inc.

“This feature aligns with our mission to provide affordable, high-performance storage solutions that integrate seamlessly with existing tools while prioritizing security.”
